About Me – From Ashes

Hi!

My name is Tiens van Zyl and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.

I’m an Information Security Specialist, ex-bass guitarist for Sacrifist and a lot of other bands, cyclist, boxer, gamer, technology enthusiast and avid motorcyclist. I love technology in general and like to tinker with anything I’m able to get my hands on.)

I started working in the IT field in 1998 and fell in love with Microsoft Exchange which has been my passion and specialisation till 2022. As time went on I started working with Linux and open source software as a hobby. As a professional I support/ed and manage/d messaging systems such as Microsoft Exchange, the 0365 stack, BES, Mail Marshall, ISA/TMG and many different areas of Microsoft and other messaging technologies.

GWBasic was the first programming language that I played with when I was at Primary School. Since then I started learning Delphi for University, Python and C# as a hobby and Powershell as my day to day job requires me to use Powershell.

In 2019 I decided to deep dive into cyber security with the goal of moving to a cyber security role. The end goal is to work as a pentester or red teamer.
